Resistance Training: The KEY To Reshaping Your Body...
If I could tell you a way to decrease your body fat, boost your metabolism, and increase your energy without restricting your calories, would you want to learn more?
So why do so many women still think that aerobic exercise is the way to get lean?
Strength training is beneficial for everyone but is particularly important for women! Let me give you some reasons why:
- Women tend to have less bone density than men due to their smaller frames and shorter stature. Strength training will increase bone density and decrease the risk of osteoporosis.
- Women have less muscle mass than men due to their shorter stature, but increasing it will boost metabolism.
- Women produce less testosterone, a key anabolic hormone involved in building muscle tissue, so you won't get big and bulky.
- Women produce progesterone, a hormone that degrades cell proteins which makes it harder to build muscle tissue, again you will never get big and bulky.
- Women are born to carry more fat than men to support your hormone functions and for childbearing, so it’s a great idea to build muscle to help burn that fat.
So, now that you know why women need strength training, let's talk about some of the benefits:
- Better self-confidence
- Increased energy
- Higher metabolism
- Lower body fat
- Improved bone density
- Boosted immune function
- Muscle strength and mass greater than before (This means that you have a firm backside and your arms won't flap when you wave!)
One last thought... sometimes, I hear women complain that they just started a strength training program and that now they weigh more and their clothes feel tight! They instantly think, "I must be getting bigger!"
Well, the truth is that your body is responding to your new program by increasing the glycogen stores in the muscle tissue so that you have energy for your workout.
It may take a little while for the body to get accustomed to your new glycogen needs, so be sure to drink a minimum of 2-litres of water a day to ensure that your body has sufficient fluids for normal cellular function and optimal performance! Muscle tissue is approximately 75% water, so don't ignore your fluid requirements.
